Rio 2016 Olympics spot USAIN BOLT

Hamstrung Usain Bolt hopes to prove fitness in London to secure Rio 2016 Olympics spot

Usain Bolt confirmed suffering a grade one hamstring tear at Jamaica’s Olympic trials on Friday but the star sprinter expects to secure his place at the Rio Games by proving his fitness at the London Anniversary Games later this month.
Bolt withdrew from the final of the men’s 100 metres after Friday night’s semi-finals as Yohan Blake went on to win the trial in 9.95 seconds.
“After feeling discomfort in my hamstring after the first round last night (Thursday) and then again in the semi-final tonight (Friday) I was examined by the Chief Doctor of the National Championships and diagnosed with a Grade 1 tear,” Bolt said on his official Facebook account.
“I have submitted a medical exemption to be excused from the 100m final and the remainder of the National Championships.
“I will seek treatment immediately and hope to show fitness at the London Anniversary Games on July 22 to earn selection for the Olympic Games in Rio,” the two-time Olympic 100 metre and 200 metre gold medallist added.
Bolt had clocked 10.04 seconds to win semi-final one after a poor start.
His withdrawal does not mean he would miss the Rio Olympics, where Bolt is expected to defend his 100 and 200 metre titles.
Unlike the United States, where the first three finishers in the trials win Olympic berths, Jamaica’s selection policy allows medical exemptions.
His coach Glen Mills told Reuters that efforts were made since Thursday night to get Bolt ready for Friday’s semi-final and final.
“The therapist did a good job working on him but in a couple of hours to come and run, he felt it again,” Mills said.
“Hamstring injuries are always serious. The fact that he couldn’t run, showed it is serious, but we’ll see what happens between now and (the Olympics),” Mills said at trackside after another of his charge, Blake, won the trial.
Bolt also posted a photo of receiving treatment on his instagram page.

Jaipur Pink Panthers-Bengaluru Bulls clash ends in tie.

Jasvir Singh scored a crucial point in the dying seconds of the game as Jaipur Pink Panthers came back from an 11-point deficit to tie 28-28 against the Bengaluru Bulls in Jaipur on Thursday.
For long periods of the game, it looked like the Bulls would coast to a comfortable victory but Jasvir had a tremendous second half to snatch a tie from the jaws of defeat.
Jaipur Pink Panthers moved up to third place with nine points whereas Bengaluru Bulls jumped to fourth spot with eight points.
Jasvir Singh ended with nine raid points and ended as the top scorer in the match.
In the first minute of the game, Bengaluru Bulls sent Jasvir Singh packing to the bench as they took a 2-0 lead.
Singh came back in the fifth minute to score his first point with a do-or-die raid.
Vinod Kumar was the most successful raider for the Bulls in the first half, as he scored two more points in the 15th minute to give them a 10-7 lead.
With less than four minutes to go, Bulls inflicted their first all out to lead 14-9.
Jasvir Singh finished the first half of on a high as they scored two quick points to trail by 11-14.
ShabeerBappu had five empty raids for Jaipur Pink Panthers in the first half.
Bengaluru Bulls defenders were on their game all night as they forced two successful tackles in the first two minutes of the second half to lead 16-11.
Jasvir spent more than 11 minutes off the court and Bulls made his absence count.
After first five minutes of the second half, the Bulls led 17-12.
Bulls inflicted their second all-out in the sixth minute of the second half to lead 23-12.
It looked like curtains for Jaipur Pink Panthers but they came back into the game as Jasvir Singh three raid points to cut the deficit to seven points as Bulls led 23-16.
Jaipur Pink Panthers inflicted an all-out and trailed 21-24 with eight minutes remaining.
With less than a minute to go, Jaipur trailed by 26-28 but Jasvir Singh made a crucial raid and then the Jaipur defence forced a tackle point to dash Bengaluru’s hopes of recording their first win against the Pink Panthers in Jaipur.

Wimbledon 2016 serena

Wimbledon 2016: Serena Williams survives scare to beat Christina McHale in three-set thriller

Serena trailed 2-0 at the start of the deciding set but won in two hours 29 minutes on Centre Court against McHale.
serena Williams composed herself after a first-set loss and a burst of anger to vanquish tenacious fellow American Christina McHale 6-7(7) 6-2 6-4 in a nail-biting second-round match at Wimbledon on Friday.
The defending champion finally ran out a winner against the world number 65, marching on in her quest to emulate Steffi Graf’s Open era record of 22 grand slam singles titles.
Williams thought she had won the first set and was walking back to her chair after a McHale forehand was called long with the world number one 5-4 and 40-30 up. To her chagrin, however, a Hawkeye challenge showed the ball brushing the baseline.
McHale went on to win the game and force a tiebreak in which a rattled Williams made a string of errors, including two double faults, before burying a forehand into the net to lose the set.
Furious as she sat down, she hammered her racket into the ground in frustration before hurling it behind her.
But the 34-year-old put the disappointment behind her and showed the battling form that has won her six Wimbledon crowns to take the next two sets, closing out the two-and-a-half hour match with three aces.

Euro 2016: Portugal reach semis    with win over Poland

Cristiano Ronaldo scored in the first penalty to give Portugal 1-0 lead.
A superb shootout save by Portugal’s Rui Patricio allowed Ricardo Quaresma to be the hero again as his spot kick against Poland sent them into the Euro 2016 semi-finals 5-3 on penalties after a 1-1 finish following extra time on Thursday.
Patricio dived full length to block Jakub Blaszczykowski’s penalty, Poland’s fourth, allowing substitute Quaresma, whose goal late in extra-time beat Croatia in the round of 16, to bang in Portugal’s fifth from the spot.
Two hours earlier striker Robert Lewandowski had put Poland ahead in the second minute only for 18-year-old Renato Sanches to equalise with a superb shot 33 minutes into his first international start for Portugal.
Precious little happened from then on but Portugal, beaten on penalties by Spain in the semi-finals four years ago, will not care as they advance to the last four at the Euros for the fourth time in five tournaments to face either Belgium or Wales.
Poland, who had never won a European Championship match before this tournament and finished bottom of their group on home soil four years ago, will bemoan their early missed opportunities and probably backed themselves in the shootout having got past
Switzerland that way in the last round.
DEFENSIVE MISJUDGEMENT
They went ahead almost from kickoff when Portugal defender Cedric’s misjudgement allowed a long ball to bounce over his head to Kamil Grosicki. He drove on down the left and squared for Lewandowski to guide the ball in.
It was the striker’s first goal of the tournament and, at one minute, 40 seconds, the second-fastest in European Championship history after Dmitri Kirichenko’s for Russia against Greece after 65 seconds in 2004.
Poland looked the more confident team for the next 20 minutes but Portugal settled and began to make inroads.
Sanches, on his first international start, played a neat 1-2 with Nani and found time to shift the ball onto his left foot at the edge of the box and smash it past Lukasz Fabianski, with the aid of a deflection.
Both sides came out for the second half seemingly under instruction to slow things down and the life bled from the game.
The only really clear chance of the half came in the 85th minute when substitute Joao Moutinho lobbed a clever pass over the top only for Cristiano Ronaldo who, having taken the time to glance at the keeper’s positioning, failed to make any contact on the dropping ball with the goal gaping.
Little changed in the additional 30 minutes, with the near-64,000 crowd drugged into a drowsy-near silence, knowing what was afoot almost from the restart.
Poland had followed the same routine in their last-16 clash with Switzerland and won the shootout and, looking very weary on Thursday, clearly had another in their sights.
This time, however, the gamble backfired as Ronaldo, Sanches, Moutinho and Nani all scored before Quaresma’s coup de grace.

Euro 2016: Wales stun Belgium 3-1 to reach semis

Wales produced a stunning upset to reach the Euro 2016 semi-finals after Hal Robson-Kanu’s superbly fashioned goal and Sam Vokes’s late header secured a 3-1 comeback win over Belgium on Friday to set up a clash with Portugal.
Robson-Kanu left three Belgium players for dead with a ‘Cruyff’ turn and calmly stroked the ball home to put Wales ahead in the second half, while substitute Vokes’s header ensured they reached their first major tournament semi-final.
It was a crushing blow for heavy favourites Belgium, who had taken the lead in the 13th minute when Radja Nainggolan rifled a shot into the top corner from distance only for Wales captain Ashley Williams to level with a header from a corner.
“I said before we kicked the ball today, we’re not here to enjoy it, we are here to compete,” Wales manager Chris Coleman said. “Don’t be afraid to have dreams. Four years ago I was as far away from this as you could imagine. I’ve had more failures than successes but I’m not afraid to fail. We deserve this.”
Wales, playing in their first quarter-final since losing to Brazil in the 1958 World Cup, next have a match that sees the world’s two most expensive players face each other in Portugal’s Cristiano Ronaldo and his Real Madrid team mate Gareth Bale.
Coleman’s side, however, will have to do without their inspirational midfielder Aaron Ramsey, who picked up a booking that has ruled him out of the semi-final in Lyon on Wednesday.
FRENETIC OPENING
There was a frenetic opening to Friday’s match, which many had predicted would be a cagey encounter, as Belgium took the early initiative and would have grabbed the lead after seven minutes but for some superb last-ditch Wales defending.
Wayne Hennessey saved superbly from Yannick Carrasco before efforts from Thomas Meunier and Eden Hazard were blocked by lunging defenders as Wales, looking to talisman Bale for an outlet, sought to stem the early Belgian tide.
The Welsh were undone, however, when Nainggolan’s powerful shot from 25 metres thundered past Hennessey’s outstretched fingers into the top corner to give Belgium the lead.
Strangely, the goal swung the momentum back in Wales’s favour, with Coleman’s side fluffing a chance to level when Neil Taylor sidefooted at keeper Thibaut Courtois from six metres.
The equaliser arrived five minutes later in the 55th, though, and was clearly crafted on the training ground. Having won a corner, Wales’s players lined up behind each other, before breaking from the pack as Aaron Ramsey whipped the ball in.
Wales captain Williams, who had recovered from a shoulder injury to make the starting lineup, found himself unmarked to head down and past Courtois for the first goal the Belgium keeper had conceded since their opening defeat by Italy.
While Belgium began the second half stronger, with Romelu Lukaku glancing a header wide and Hazard flashing a shot just past the post, it was not long before Wales struck again with Robson-Kanu producing a sublime piece of individual skill.
Ramsey’s cross found the striker in the area with his back to goal but he sold three Belgium players a dummy with a trademark ‘Cruyff’ turn and then sidefooted the ball powerfully past the helpless Courtois in the 55th minute.
Belgium pushed hard for an equaliser but Wales were resilient and then broke with four minutes remaining as Chris Gunter crossed for Vokes to leap and angle his header across goal into the net, sparking wild Welsh celebrations.

Wimbledon 2016

Wimbledon 2016: Roger Federer claims another British scalps as he sends Dan Evans packing

Elegant executioner Roger Federer dropped Dan Evans through the Wimbledon trap door on Friday as he reached the fourth round of the grasscourt major with a bloodless 6-4 6-2 6-2 victory.
Forty eight hours after slaying world number 772 Marcus Willis, Federer claimed a second successive British scalp as he reached the second week without dropping a set at this year’s championships.
Evans, the once bad boy of British tennis, was on a roll this week as never before had he won a match at the All England Club, let alone two in a row.
But if Evans, the son on an electrician, harboured hopes of going deeper into the tournament, it was not long before the seven-times champion pulled the plug on his dreams on a floodlit Centre Court.
The Swiss third seed chalked up his 150th grasscourt win with an unreturnable serve as he became the first, and so far only, man to reach the fourth round of the rain ravaged tournament.

euro cup 2016

Euro 2016: Wales can keep dream run going, says Hal Robson-Kanu

A combination of world class talent and solid defence will keep Wales’ dream run alive after their stunning 3-1 victory over Belgium booked them a place in their first ever European Championship semi-final, man-of-the-match Hal Robson-Kanu said.
Two second-half goals from Robson-Kanu and Sam Vokes sealed the win against the fancied Belgians after captain Ashley Williams first-half header cancelled out an early strike from Belgium’s Radja Nainggolan.
“We did well to get back into game in the first half..and we knew if we kept playing in the second half as we did in first then we’d get our just deserts,” said Robson-Kanu.
“We kept to our game plan. We’ve got world-class players – we can be as solid as a rock defensively. With those two combined we stand a good chance.”
Former England international Gary Lineker, in his role as a pundit for British broadcaster BBC, called Wales’ win “one of the greatest performances in the history of British football”.
Coach Chris Coleman said he was quietly confident they could spring an upset and that they deserved the win.
“I said before we kicked the ball today, we are not here to enjoy it, we are here to compete.”
“Four years ago I was as far away from this as you could imagine. I’ve had more failures than successes but I’m not afraid to fail. We deserve this.”
Captain Williams’ goal in the 30th minute was his second goal on his 64th game for his country.
“I’m pleased [to score]. I’m more pleased we got through. I don’t score many goals.
